Who we are
MDDHosting LLC is a privately owned company formed in 2007 to provide services that are often overpriced at affordable prices for individuals and businesses worldwide.
We do not see our clients as a number or a dollar sign. Every account matters. Every ticket gets a real answer from a real person — usually within minutes.
We are still the same company we were in 2007, with the same values and the same owner. We have never been acquired, never been sold, and we are not for sale.
How we got here
Nineteen years of building, learning, and never backing down. Read the full story on our blog →
The dream starts in middle school
A 12-year-old Michael Denney writes his own web server software and decides he wants to start a web hosting company someday. That idea never went away.
MDDHosting is founded
Started with a HostGator reseller account. Servers were overloaded from day one — moved to a managed dedicated server within weeks. The first few hundred clients followed.
The Planet datacenter fire
An explosion and fire at The Planet datacenter caused 72–96 hours of downtime. The lesson was clear: we needed redundancy, off-site backups, and control over our own infrastructure. We moved to SoftLayer (now IBM) unmanaged dedicated servers and added a dedicated backup server.
Colocated hardware at Handy Networks, Denver CO
Jay Sudowski of Handy Networks provided over $100,000 of hardware on a handshake — before we’d paid a cent. We moved to fully owned colocated servers, saving ~$10,000/month vs. renting. The margin freed up budget to hire staff.
First staff member hired
Scott Swezey — originally a customer who asked better questions than most — joined the team. He’s still here.
Storage infrastructure upgrade
Moved from a traditional SAN to a software-defined distributed storage platform. The speed improvements were massive. Latency dropped, performance soared, and the storage could heal itself automatically — no single point of failure.
The incident that changed everything
The hardest chapter. Read the full account below.
Same values. Stronger infrastructure.
Servers kept at 50–80% capacity (not overloaded like the competition). Automated, verified snapshots run constantly. Every account isolated. Average support response: ~6 minutes. We’re still here.
The incident that changed everything.
In 2018, a sysadmin issued the wrong command —
blkdiscard
instead of
fstrim.
The difference is catastrophic: blkdiscard wiped all customer data nearly instantaneously.
To make it worse, snapshots had not been enabled — a miscommunication with our storage provider that we take full responsibility for. The initial estimated restoration time was 28 days.
The team worked through it. No panic, no pointing fingers, no giving up. We were fully restored in 96 hours — 4 days, not 28.
“Panicking doesn’t solve problems and only makes things more difficult.”
After restoration, we completely rebuilt our backup and snapshot infrastructure. Automated snapshots now run continuously and are verified automatically. The same scenario cannot happen again the same way.
We are still here. Stronger. And we don’t hide what happened — because a company that faces hard moments honestly is one you can actually trust.
Infrastructure & datacenter
Our servers are built on a minimum of Intel Xeon 48-core processors and 256 GB RAM, backed by fast, distributed storage with no single point of failure. They sit in the Handy Networks facility in Denver, Colorado.
The facility is located in Denver’s central business district with power feeds from multiple substations. Temperature is controlled at 70°F (±4°) within 45% humidity (±4%) by 7 N+1 air handling units.
Connectivity carriers include tw telecom, Level3, Comcast, Hurricane Electric, Internap, XO, Global Crossing, Savvis, UUNET, and RMIX — fully multi-homed for redundancy.
